Silverton High School is proud to announce that Johnie Ferro has been selected as the new Assistant Principal in charge of curriculum (pending board approval). She will be replacing Therese Gerlits who has accepted the role of Principal at Butte Creek Elementary School.
Mrs. Ferro returns to Silverton High School from McKay High School in the Salem-Keizer School District, where she most recently served in a similar role. Johnie is no stranger to the community or the school district, as she taught and served in a number of leadership roles for Silverton High School from 2006-2015. She has significant experience in coordinating district and state assessments, development and leadership of CTE programs, data analysis and response to increase student performance, and implementation of school-wide and district professional development. While she was at Silverton High School previously, she was an Agriculture Science and Technology instructor as well as FFA advisor. She played a heavy role in the restructuring of Silverton High School’s Advisory Group curriculum and advised the leadership group, to name just a few of the many contributions she made to the school. Mrs. Ferro was named Silverton High School’s Teacher of the Year in 2012. Prior to her time at Silverton and McKay High Schools, she taught at Kennedy High School in Mt. Angel.
A proud Oregon State alum, Mrs. Ferro received both her Bachelors of Science in General Agriculture and her Masters of Science in Agricultural Education from OSU. She completed her administrative license (IAL) at Portland State University.
We are excited to welcome Mrs. Ferro and her family back to Silverton. We believe she is a perfect fit and are confident she will be an outstanding addition to the community and the leadership team at Silverton High School.
