We are very excited about a new format for conferences this year! We will be running student-led conferences for the first time. This year, student-led conferences will be similar to what we’ve done in the past, but instead of being led by a teacher or families, the conversation is led by students themselves. That being said, it is important your student attends conferences with you. At conferences, students will have the opportunity to share with you about their progress and challenges in classes, they can ask for help from you and their teachers, and they can make a plan to ensure success as they work toward graduation and post-high school plans.
To prepare for conferences, students are currently working on reflections in their AG classes. They will also be completing short reflections in their content area courses throughout the coming week. Teachers are having discussions with students about their progress, and guiding them as they work through their challenges and successes.
Research has shown that when young people spend time in class reflecting on their learning, it helps to create a solid plan of how to succeed
in classes that are challenging. Ultimately this can lead to greater engagement as the students take ownership of their learning and growth.
All in all, we are all enjoying the growth opportunities these reflections are providing. We look forward to the change and bringing families
into these conversations!
