Based on the survey results from our graduating class of 2021, we will be holding the Commencement Ceremony in two outdoor sessions at McGinnis Field. We will need to hold two ceremonies to meet current state guidelines. As the school and district are agencies of the state, we are required to follow these guidelines.
Class of 2021 Commencement
June 10th, 2021
1st session Ceremony will begin at 6:00 pm
2nd session Ceremony will begin at 8:00 pm
Graduates will be participating in the ceremony with their Advisory Group class. The ceremony time each Advisory Group class is assigned will be selected at random and sent to graduates and families on Tuesday, May 25th.
Tickets: At this time, graduates will receive four tickets for family or guests to attend the ceremony. Please be advised the number of tickets could increase or decrease, in accordance with state guidelines.
Weather: As we all know that Oregon weather can be non-cooperative for outdoor ceremonies. In order to accommodate each family’s view of their graduate, no umbrellas will be allowed in McGinnis Field for the ceremony.
Parking: We will be sending out detailed maps of parking areas and entrances to McGinnis field a week before the ceremony.
Student Information: We will be sending out graduation guidelines to students and families regarding graduation attire, behavior expectations, schedule for the last week of school, senior materials return, student fees and payments, as well as other details.
Caps, Gowns, and Tassels: please contact Jostens (Mike Thull) if you still have not ordered your cap and gown. If you have access to a black cap and gown to borrow from a former SHS student, you may wear that. You do not have to buy these items. We have a limited supply of caps and gowns; if you cannot purchase a cap and gown, you may request to borrow one from high school. Please contact Mrs. Meraz to inquire about borrowing a cap and gown.
Honor Cords, Medals, and other graduation adornments: Graduation adornments will be handed out the week before the ceremony. If you cannot make it during the selected times, we will make other arrangements to make sure students receive their appropriate regalia. Silverton High School follows ODE policies and practices to recognize the diversity of students and families to promote cultural inclusivity and equity. Please contact your AG teacher or Mrs. Drescher to confirm the use of individual cultural items during the commencement ceremony.
We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2021 on June 10th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
