Graduation
The commencement ceremony for the Silverton High School Class of 2022 will be held at McGinnis Field on June 9, 2022, at 7:00 pm.
Guest Entrance and Seating
- Each graduate will receive six tickets for family and friends to attend the graduation ceremony at McGinnis Stadium. If the weather does not permit for an outdoor ceremony, the ticket number will need to be adjusted to fit the venue capacity. Tickets will be given to each graduate at the end of graduation practice on June 9.
- Entry Gates (on the west side of the stadium) will open 45 minutes prior to the ceremony start time.
- Guests will not be allowed early entry to the stadium. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- No guests will be permitted into the stadium without a ticket.
- No outside food or drink.
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) seating will be available. Please get in touch with our Counseling Center to make arrangements if you have ADA seating needs.
- To respect each family’s view of their graduate, no umbrellas, balloons, signs, or anything that may obstruct views will be allowed in McGinnis Field Complex.
Weather
- We will continue to monitor the weather prior to the ceremony. A decision will be made by Monday, June 6 if the event needs to move to the SHS gym. As we all know that Oregon weather can be non-cooperative for outdoor ceremonies. We encourage all guests to arrive prepared for what the skies may hold.
- To respect each guest’s view of their graduate, no umbrellas will be allowed in the stadium.
Parking
- Parking will be available on campus, along with auxiliary and street parking.
- ADA spots are accessible on a limited basis.
- To accommodate the parking logistics, guests are encouraged to drop off their graduates and limit the number of cars as much as possible.
Restrooms
- Facility restrooms will be available at the north end of the stadium bleachers.
Photo Opportunities
- Grad Images will be present for photos of graduates as they receive their diploma, as they have been in previous years.
- Families will have an opportunity for pictures after the ceremony at SHS Pine Street Campus.
After the Ceremony
- After the ceremony, graduates will walk out of the stadium and to Silverton High School to pick up their diplomas.
- Project Graduation sponsored All-Night Grad Party will begin after the ceremony. This is not a Silverton High School event. Please visit the Silverton Project Graduation site for information.
Diploma Pickup
- Immediately after the ceremony, graduates will walk out of the stadium to Silverton High School Pine Street Campus to pick up their diplomas.
- Diplomas must be handed directly to the graduate; a family member or friend cannot collect them.
- Diplomas will also be available for pick up Monday – Friday (starting Friday, June 10th) at SHS from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.
- Diplomas will NOT be mailed.
How do I get my diploma if I don’t have time after the ceremony?
If you could not pick it up the night of graduation, your diploma will be available for pick up at SHS during office hours. If you cannot make it during those hours, please call the school office at 503-873-6331 to make other arrangements.
Graduation Practice
Graduation practice will take place on Thursday, June 9th, at 12:00 pm (noon). Practice is mandatory.
Graduation Tickets will be distributed to each graduate at the conclusion of practice.

Commencment Ceremony Participation
- Must pass all required credits in order to walk at graduation.

Honor Cords, Medals, and other Adornments
- Gold Honor Cord: All Students with a 3.5 to 4.0 Cumulative GPA qualify to receive a gold honor cord.
- Silver Honor Cord: All Students with a 3.0 to 3.49 Cumulative GPA qualify to receive a gold honor cord.
- Honor cords are $7 and may be purchased from the Bookkeeper’s Office beginning May 30th. See your counselor if you need to borrow a set of honor cords due to financial hardship.
- Students receiving any honors diploma will receive a medallion. These will be distributed prior to graduation.
- All other recognition cords/stoles will be handed out by the club advisor. Please contact your advisor directly.
- Graduation caps may not be adorned in any manner.
- Silverton High School follows ODE policies and practices to recognize the diversity of students and families to promote cultural inclusivity and equity. Please contact your AG teacher or Mrs. Drescher to confirm the use of recognized individual cultural items during the commencement ceremony.
Books, Chromebooks, and School Materials
All school materials are due on June 8th, 2022. Chromebook & Textbook Return will take place in students’ AG or after school in the Library. Please look for any books that may be overdue and turn them in.

Senior Awards Night
Senior Awards Night will be held on June 2, 2022, at 7:00 pm in the Silverton High School auditorium, by invitation only.
Graduation Standards Commitment
All seniors must fill out and sign a Graduation Standards Commitment Form. These must be signed and turned in to the Counseling Center no later than May 13, 2022. You must turn in your signed form in order to participate and walk at graduation.

Local Scholarship Opportunities
These scholarships offer greater financial opportunities for your next venture: Community College, University, or Trade School! Local scholarships for the Class of 2022 will start to open on January 1, 2022. Not all scholarships open at the same time, so you will need to keep an eye on our scholarship page.
Diploma Information
Please be sure to turn your diploma name card into Mrs. Meraz in the Counseling Center to ensure your diploma is printed accurately and your name is how you would like it to appear on your diploma. If you do not return this card by March 31, 2022, your diploma will be ordered with your full legal name as we have on record. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Meraz at 503-873-6331 Ext. 3799.
Senior Photo Information & Deadline
Senior Photos Due: December 10, 2021 – EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2021
Google Form for submission. All photos must be submitted through this form.
Senior Photo Requirements:

- Submit only one photo
- 300 DPI minimum
- Vertical Orientation (portrait) — the photo should be taller than it is wide
- 2” × 3”
- No photographer watermarks or other advertisements
- No borders of any kind around the image (black, white, colored, or otherwise)
- No text
- No sunglasses
- No offensive signage, controversial slogans, or other inappropriate content of any kind
- Do not upload screenshots of images, these will not be high enough quality for printing
- Acceptable file formats: .jpg or .png
- Name your file: lastname_firstname_seniorphoto

Senior Work Day
Most locations will be outside and will require long pants and close-toed shoes that can get dirty. Dress for the weather as we will be working rain or shine.
