Girls Tennis Players:  There will be a meeting with your coach on Thursday after school, in the Commons, at 3:30.  Athletes who are already signed up, or anyone who would like to sign up, please be there!!
Still planning to participate in a Spring Sport, but haven’t started or finished your registration OR spoken to the coach or Mrs. Martinson??? Whoooaaaaa!!!!!  You have procrastinated and have only TWO DAYS TO GET IT DONE!!!!
Athletes for Tennis, Golf, Track, Softball and Baseball:  It may be cold/icy/snowy outside, but you need to get serious about your registration for Spring Sports!  Registration cut-off is Friday, February 22nd.  Please come and see Mrs. Martinson in the Athletic Office if you have any questions regarding the status of your eligibility.  GO FOXES!
Students:
In honor of Black History Month, we invite you to join us on Thursday, Feb. 28. We will take a bus that evening to join together and share the culture and history of our African American populations with a fun family event held at McKay High School. This event will be an evening full of music, dancing, poetry, and tribute! Busses will leave at 6:15 pm, and we will return around 9:00 pm. Permission slips are available in the counseling office and must be turned in no later than 3:00 pm on the 27th to the bookkeeper. If money is an issue, please speak with your counselor. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to go!
Interested in AP Science?! We have some changes to our science classes being offered next year. Look for AP Biology and AP Environmental Science when you are forecasting classes! If you have any questions, ask any of one the science teachers and they can help you out.

PETER AND THE STARCATCHER continues this week. Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. All shows at 7pm. See a cast member for more information.
Friday is “Dress like a Pirate day”. Anyone who dresses like a pirate gets into the show, PETER AND THE STARCATHER, free!  Remember to stay school appropriate, no swords or hooks.
Attention Juniors: All students interested in potentially attending a 4-year college after high school should consider signing up to take the SAT or the ACT in the spring. Many colleges will require you to take one or the other as part of their admissions process. There are two upcoming SAT test dates this spring: May 4th and June 1st. You can register online at sat.org. Deadlines for both test dates are April 5th and May 3rd. For more information about either test please see the counseling office.
If you are a current junior and have an interest in a health related career, this is now the time to complete an application for the 2019-2020 Health Occupations class.  This program offers both class time and community clinical experiences in various health care fields. This is a two period block class and you cannot sign up for this class in fall.  For more information on the application process, please see Mrs. Sheets in room B120.  Application closing date is Thursday, February 28th, 2019
Please remember to turn in your Semester 1 novels and textbooks to the library ASAP. Items can be given to Ms. Sallee or put in the book drop.
You won’t want to miss the donkey basketball game on Saturday, February 23rd at 6:30 p.m. here at the high school in the main gym! Watch your favorite staff members and friends ride in this hilariously fun event! Brought to you by Silverton FFA! Tickets for 7th-12th grade students are $6 before the event and are available from the high school bookkeeper. Tickets for K-6th are $4 and adults are $8. Tickets at the door are $1 more. Tickets are also available at Silverton Les Schwab. See you on the 23rd!
The kitchen will be serving a variety of bacon items for breakfast and lunch in honor of the Chinese year of the pig for the whole month of February.
Class/Club Activity Information:
Attention Juniors: You are invited to join us on March 19th for The NW Youth Career Expo. The Expo highlights the region’s amazing diversity of career opportunities, along with the skills and education needed for those jobs. It includes hands on learning, demonstrations, workshops and a chance to talk directly with professionals about college-and-career options. Spots are limited to 80 students, so please sign up in the counseling office to reserve your spot.
Interested in Building a Cabin for Credit? ONE CLASS ONLY during School.  We will be building a cabin during school next year.  From foundation to finishing.  If you are interested in either the design or build, come talk to Mr. Houts out in the CTE building.  Space is limited to only 25 students in each.
Apprenticeships: Looking for a career that allows you to earn and learn at the same time?  Like working with your hands?  We’re highlighting over 20 careers on the apprenticeship wall in Senior Hall across from A109.  Stop by the display and see if there is a career of interest that you would like to learn more about.  This opportunity is for Freshmen through Seniors and will give you opportunities to talk to industry leaders and/or travel to their place of work and see what the job looks like first hand.  Talk to Dr. Barnes in A109 and start exploring careers today.

Scholarship:
Legacy Silverton Health Auxiliary Scholarship is due this Friday the 22nd!  Application and supporting documents must be in the scholarship chairman’s hands by 5:00pm. See Mrs. Chorazy in the counseling office if you have questions!
Seniors! Three new local scholarships are open NOW!  Go to the high school website and look for the Ronald and Sara Burr  Scholarship Fund, the Elizabeth Ashley Hoke Memorial Trust Scholarship, and the MAPS Credit Union Scholarship!!
Friends of Silverton FFA Scholarships are now open on the SHS website.  Applications can be filled out online – make sure you follow all the links to ensure your application is filled out correctly before you submit it!
Seniors – OSAC Early Bird Deadline is February 15th!! Log on to your OSAC account and make sure your application is complete and has been submitted! If you aren’t doing the Early Bird entry, your application is due March 1, 2019.
