  • Are you interested in volunteering this summer? An estimated 1,000 children in the Silver Falls School District find it difficult to afford the supplies they need to do well in school. You can help! The Apple Tree School Supply Drive is looking for summer volunteers for a unique leadership program. More information and applications can be found in the Counseling Center and the SHS website.
  • Today during AG, FBLA National Competitors will be coming around to Advisory Groups to sell popcorn for $1 a bag. Bring your money to support sending our FBLA members to compete in Chicago, Illinois, in business-related events!
  • Anyone interested in running Cross Country next fall, please attend a brief informational/sign-up meeting in the weight room during AG this Friday. We will be discussing summer team workouts, training, and next year’s meet schedule.
  • Would you like to be a part of one of Silverton’s favorite traditions? On June 4, Rotary is sponsoring the Daddy/Daughter Dance, and we need your help! We need students to help us decorate, help daughters make their crafts, and organize the Daddies and Daughters when they play games such as Musical Chairs and Minute to Win-It! If you want to volunteer your time and watch some very happy youngsters have a night of their lives, please see Mrs. Bahr to sign up for a shift or two or three!
  • Come learn about a 2024 Summer trip to Spain and France! Find out about the trip at our informational meeting Tuesday, May 31 at 7:00 pm in the SHS Library. Please bring a parent to learn about this amazing opportunity. See Mrs. Roth or Ms. Kantrowitz with questions.
  • Seniors – Honor cords are here! If you qualified to wear an honor cord at Graduation, you should have received an email with details this morning. Honor Cords cost $7.00 and can be purchased at the bookkeeper’s window before school, during passing time, during both lunches, and after school.

  • Are you interested in a career in Health Care or Emergency Medicine? Curious about your options or where to start? Join us on Monday, 5/23, during AG in the Library and learn more about options for further education through Chemeketa’s EMT & Paramedic Program. We have professors and students joining us today to answer questions and help students explore options.
  • Congratulations to everyone who competed at the State Track & Field meet this weekend! The boys’ team brought home Silverton’s first Track & Field championship! Great job, Foxes! What an amazing weekend!
    • The Boys Track Stats:
      • Sam Willis was the State champion in the discus, breaking his previous school record
      • Orie Schaffers followed that up with a State title of his own in the shot put and also placed 5th in the discus
      • Austin Ratliff was 3rd in the 100, and 3rd in the 200 breaking a 25-year-old school record
      • Austin Ratliff, Riley Sinn, Steeley Mucken, and Jackson Pfeifer set a school record-setting and 2nd place in the 4X1 relay team
      • Joel Rush placed 2nd in the pole vault
      • Ryan Redman-Brown and Jonathan Duval tied for 3rd
      • Josef Dettwyler placed 6th in the high jump
      • Ping Koonantha took 4th in the triple jump
      • Steeley Mucken was 5th in the 100
      • Keegan Walter was 7th in the long jump

  • Attention NHS Members: We are having a meeting next week at 8:15 am on Wednesday the 25th in Mrs. Bay’s room. Seniors will get their cords for Graduation, and we will be discussing upcoming community service opportunities.
  • For those interested in participating with next year’s Dance Team, tryouts are after school today! Be at the Middle School main gym right after school – tryouts are from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. See Mrs. Martinson if you have questions.
  • Today is Senior Night for both our Softball and Baseball teams. Come out and show your support! Softball Lady Foxes begin at 4:20 with presentations – and there will be concessions with hot food and cold drinks! The baseball game starts at 5:00 at Davisson Field, with senior presentations shortly before. GOOOOO FOXES!!!!
  • Don’t Forget! Save three lives by donating at the Blood Drive TODAY! If you are 16 you will need a permission slip, you can pick it up on the table outside C133, the QR Code is also located there. We have 30 spots to fill and we want to make sure that we can help as many people as possible.

  • If you are interested in next year’s Dance Team, the tryouts are THIS weekend! Check-in with the Athletic Department for details.
  • OHSET athletes did outstanding at their State competition last weekend! Finishing among the Top 5 teams has earned them a spot in the Regional meet over Father’s Day weekend in June at Moses Lake, WA. Congratulations to athletes Sidney King, Samantha Griffin, Lexi Ditchen and Morgan Cuff. Sidney and Morgan together broke the state record in Team Sorting; Samantha and Lexi placed first together in the Bi-Rangle; and Samantha placed in the Top 5 in Working Rancher, Daubing, Sorting and Break-Away. Well done Foxes!
  • Girls Golf takes 2nd Place at the OSAA 5A State tournament!! Congratulations to team members Ellie Traeger, Paige Traeger, Anfisa Samoilov, Akelina Cheremnov, and Kalyssa Efimov, and Coach Hank Ulven. Ellie and Anfisa placed in the top 10 Golfers. Awesome finish to the 2022 season, girls!
  • The SFSD Custodial/maintenance Department is looking to hire multiple students for an 8-week time starting July 1. Students will work alongside our Custodial/Maintenance staff to clean and complete projects. Rate of pay begins at $13.50/hour. Applicants need to be physically fit for this type of work, at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license. If you are interested, please pick up an application at the District Office.   • This week the counseling department is doing activities to celebrate College and Career Commitment week. We do this to celebrate student commitments to post-high school plans. We will be celebrating students who are committing to college, trades, military, and work after high school. We hope that the whole school can celebrate the choices our seniors are making for their futures. All seniors are invited to participate in these activities! We would also love to see all students at SHS dress up on Friday in their favorite college or career gear! The events of the week will include:
    • All week: Students pinning their next destinations on maps
    • Tuesday/Wednesday Signing days (students will sign “I’m Going” certificates to hang up in the hall)
    • Wednesday in AG – staff slide show of their high school/college days
    • Friday – wear your favorite college/career gear! (Everyone – the whole school)
  • Art Club: Any Art Club members who are able to meet up Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday after school, please do so in room E-138. We’ll be starting our project! Not a part of Art Club yet? Come see what we’re doing. All are welcome!
  • Senior Grad party tickets will be sold through June 3. If you pay through the QR code, come during lunch and pick up your ticket on Tuesdays and Thursdays in room A116.
  • Congratulations to our Track & Field teams for not only enduring a very wet district meet last week but performing extremely well. The girls’ team took 5th, just half a point out of 4th and the boys are this year’s Mid-Willamette Conference champions! 28 athletes advanced to the State meet, contested at historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene this Friday, and Saturday. Go Foxes!

Link Crew is a group of upperclassmen that represent all the different populations of Silverton High school, who come together, train, and are here to welcome in next year’s freshman class on Freshman Orientation Day and throughout the school year!   • School Lunch Hero Day is TODAY – Make sure to tell our amazing Food Services staff thank you for all they do!
  • Class of 2022 – Project Graduation is sponsoring the All-Night Grad Party on June 9 after Graduation. Tickets will be sold in the commons during both lunches TODAY and Tuesday, May 10, and Wednesday, May 11. Tickets are $40 and include a night of fun at the Firstenburg Community Center.
  • Seniors – one last local OPEN scholarship opportunity! The Justin Little Memorial Scholarship is available if you are going to Community College and you like History! Very easy application and the scholarship can be very helpful for school expenses – this scholarship goes directly to the student. Applications are due TODAY. See Mrs. Chorazy in the Counseling Center for more information.
  • Shout out to our Girls Varsity Golf Team for earning the League Championship Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis! This is the first time since 1980 and the second ever League Title! If you see them in the halls or in class, please congratulate Ellie Traeger, Anfisa Samoilov, and Akelina Cheremnov for First Team All-League; Paige Traeger for Second Team All-League; Kalyssa Efimov for her two great scores and contribution at the tournament; and Girls Golf coach Hank Ulven. All five golfers will be heading to the OSAA 5A State tournament on May 16th and 17th! Well done, Foxes!!
  • Are you interested in the Fox Dance or Cheer Team for next year? These are not gender-specific sports, and all individuals are welcome to try out. Tryouts are:
    • Dance – May 20th and 21st
    • Cheer – June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
    • You must participate on these dates for placement on teams, as the work begins early this summer with practices, skill-building, and other events throughout the months ahead. You do not need to be registered in the online athlete registration portal, but you do need to have a current sports physical on file. See Mrs. Martinson ASAP to get information and to be in touch with coaches.
  • Stop by the Fox Shop, open during both lunches on regular schedule days. Try out our new summer drinks! Root beer Floats, Strawberry Lemonade Slushies, FroYo, Wildberry Smoothies, and 3 flavors of Milkshakes: Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate! Also, cookies, chips, energy drinks, and more are available!

  • Attention juniors and seniors (or anyone going to prom): our Silverton FFA Floriculture team is going to make corsages and boutonnières to sell. Corsages are $15 and boutonnieres are $10. If you are interested in buying some, please fill out a form (Room F101) by the 3:45 on Friday, April 22. They will be available for pickup on Friday, April 29.
  • Dogs, Cats, Fish, Guinea Pigs, Fish…Students at Sequoia Falls are having a pet food drive to donate to SACA to help homeless animals and animals from families in need of assistance. Sequoia Falls Academy is located at 622 N Water Street and is open for donations of ANY pet food next week (May 2 – May 6) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Please help spread the word!
  • Congratulations to our Track Boys 4×100 relay team for setting a NEW SCHOOL RECORD while at the Oregon Relays in the fabulous Hayward Field facility at University of Oregon on Friday: Jackson Pfeifer, Steeley Mucken, Riley Sinn and Austin Ratliff. Well done!
  • Come and watch our FOXES compete today:
    • Varsity and JV Softball both play at 5:00 here at the sports complex. JV Baseball will also be playing at the complex at 5:00. The concessions will be open! Hot dogs, hot chocolate, popcorn, nachos, candy, and sodas! Check it all out.
    • The Varsity Baseball team will be playing over at Davisson Field at 5:00 against visiting team South Albany.
    • And, watch all kinds of great individual and team events (like that awesome boys 4×100 relay team) as we host Central and Crescent Valley at the track at Kennedy High School, beginning at 4:00.
    • All competitions are FREE admission! GO FOXES!!

  • Juniors and Seniors: If you are taking a guest to prom that requires a guest pass, Guest Pass forms MUST be completed and turned in by Monday, April 25 for approval. Guest Pass forms can be picked up at the Bookkeeper’s Office.

  • Speech and Debate news update: Congratulations to Toni Ortiz-Martinez, who has been selected to compete in Student Congress at the State Championships! Toni joins Luke Folsom and Lily Mitchell to represent Silverton on April 22 and 23 at WOU. Let’s go, Foxes!
  • The Eagles (Las Aguilas) club is meeting today (classroom A212). Please check in with your AG teacher and then join us.
  • GSA will meet next Monday, April 18, during AG in the Commons. We’ll be sharing exciting updates about Project Flowerbed, as well as spending some quality time together. Please check in to AG first, and then head down to the commons at 11:20. All are welcome!
  • Freshmen: Don’t forget – Today during AG, the Rotary Youth Exchange Program will be here! As a Rotary Youth Exchange student, you’ll spend up to a year living with host families and attending school in a different country. You’ll learn a new way of living, a great deal about yourself, and maybe even a new language! You’ll also be an ambassador, teaching people you meet about your country, culture, and ideas. You can help bring the world closer and make good friends in the process.
  • The University of Oregon will be here today during AG to visit with accepted Seniors and all others who may be interested in applying!

  • The SHS Concert Band and our Wind Ensemble competed at the Mid-Willamette League Festival yesterday and qualified to head to the State Competition! Congratulations to our band members – your months of hard work paid off! The state competition will be on May 13 at Oregon State University’s LaSells Stewart Center in Corvallis. Way to go, Foxes!
  • Freshmen: This Friday, April 15, the Rotary Youth Exchange Program will be here! As a Rotary Youth Exchange student, you’ll spend up to a year living with host families and attending school in a different country. You’ll learn a new way of living, a great deal about yourself, and maybe even a new language! You’ll also be an ambassador, teaching people you meet about your country, culture, and ideas. You can help bring the world closer and make good friends in the process.
